Class 4

Welcome to Class 4. 

 

Class 4 is taught by Miss King and supported by Mr Normington. We have PE on Tuesday afternoons and 99 club tests on Tuesday. Reading books can be changed by placing them in the stripy box on the way in the classroom. 

 

 

Term 5 & 6 our learning theme is 'Food for Thought'. We will be looking at where food comes from and thinking about healthy and unhealthy foods.

In English we will be looking at the book 'Pancakes Pancakes' thinking about the different ingredients and where to find them. 

In Maths we will be continuing to focus on place value and thinking about all calculations. We will also be looking at reading and creating our own charts to see what out favourite foods are. 

In Science we shall be looking at plants and animals and their life cycle. Plus we will get the opportunity to see where our food comes from and the journey it takes from Farm to Fork.

Last week in French we learnt the names of some new fruits by singing a song about carrying fruits on our head, just like Handa. Have a look and test us on the names of the fruits in French, we are getting really good now.

In Music we have also been making our own songs to the tune of the 'Mcdonalds' song. We have been looking at healthy foods and promoting them through the use of song.

In Art this week we have been designing and painting our own food logos. We had to think about the different colours and how to make it more appealing to the public. Making them want to come and try our new product.

Welcome back,

 

Our learning theme for Term 3 & 4 is 'Inventors and Inventions' where we will be looking at the history of inventions focusing on bridges around the world. . 

 

In Maths we will be looking at fractions and moving onto identifying and using money to problem solve. We will also continue to practice our timestables to help support our learning in class. 

 

In English we shall be looking at writing a range of non-fiction texts, looking at facts about bridges and Isambard Brunel. Keep a look out for our amazing work. 

 

We will be using all of our learning to work towards creating our own bridges in Term 4. If you have any old junk modelling (boxes, crates, rolls etc) please bring them into class 4 to help us with our learning.

In Science we tested toy cars on different surfaces to see which one caused less friction. We found out that smoother surfaces are better and let the car travel much faster.

In Music this week we have been listening carefully to the world around us and recreating these sounds using ourselves. We explored the outdoors before coming back in and performing our sounds to the class.

Welcome back, we are all set to begin our new topic, around the world in 80 days. We began our journey by exploring the UK, we then moved on to Spain and have just arrived in Africa ready for our next adventure. We have been busy writing postcards from the UK back home, making wanted posters to try and find Phileas Fogg and are now rewriting the next chapter of our journey through Africa. 

In Maths we have been working hard with Number knowledge and focusing on place value and adding both one digit and two digit numbers. 

 

After briefly stopping off in Israel to explore the sights and wonders Asia had to offer we have begun our journey through India. We have been learning about the Taj Mahal, Indian clothing and Indian food. In out writing lessons we have been practising writing a non-fiction text. In maths we have been looking at using the greater than ( >) and less than (<) symbols to compare and order numbers. 

 

This week in Maths we are looking at odd and even numbers. Our friends Odd Todd and Even Steven have come to help us sort through numbers all the way up to 100.

We have been busy recreating different pieces of artwork inspired by the Tomatina festival in Spain. We have also been creating our own sunset silhouette pictures for our experience through Africa.

In Science we have been looking at weather conditions and seasonal changes. We have been keeping weekly weather diaries where we track the change in weather as Autumn arrives. Here are our diagrams to show where rain comes.

We have been looking at what happens when the wind blows and made windmills to experiment with at home when it is a windy day.

This week in Science we have been looking at the formation of clouds and we learnt about the different types of clouds.

 

We went outside to draw some of the clouds and try and identify their names. Then we came inside to test different cloud formations and their ability to hold water.
