Welcome to Class 6 S!
Class 6 S is being taught by Miss Shires, Miss Chivers and Miss Britten this year. Year 6 are making an excellent start to their last year of Primary school. They are working hard and achieved their first reward of the term by making slime. We are working as a team to ensure that we set a good example to others and always respect one another.
Since September we have been focusing on the Arctic and Antarctic. The children thoroughly enjoyed learning about the Titanic and wrote some brilliant recounts in role. We then moved on to find out all about the animals that survive in these countries. As part of this the children learned about the adaption of the animals and their survival techniques. We are currently learning about the expedition of Robert Falcon Scott. They enjoyed hypothesising about photographs and learning all about his expedition.
During Art class ten loved to make foam prints. They worked in teams to prepare the paint and then create a two toned effect on their final prints. The results are fantastic and we had a brilliant afternoon learning a new skill.
In English we have been enjoying lots of different books. Our favourite book that we have focused on this term so far was War horse. As part of this unit we wrote our own play scripts and acted them out.
In our guided reading session we are focus on the book 'Call of the Wild' by Jack London. The language within the text is very complex therefore we have decided to create a glossary to help us with out understanding of the plot.
In History we have been learning about exploration. The children had to work in teams to create a time line of the key events that happened. We enjoyed being able to share our thoughts and discuss how exploration has advanced over time.
This year we have started to use tackling tables to improve our rapid recall of our times tables skills. Every afternoon we work in groups to practise this skill through a range of different card games. We are really enjoying these sessions and our multiplication skills are improving all the time.
