Class 8

 

Welcome to the class 8 page. We are a class of year 3 and 4 children. 

We have PE on a Thursday afternoon.

Homework is handed out on a Friday and due in the following Wednesday.

 

 

Tremors...

 

Tremors. Overwhelming and mighty, Mother Nature’s awesome energies hiss and roar deep within the Earth. Plates collide, spewing lava. Rocks rain down and mud slides in torrents. Towns and cities vanish under ashen clouds.

We have looked in detail at Volcanoes and Earthquakes to understand how they occur and the damage they can cause! We will be looking at Tornadoes next. We will also be thinking about the structure of buildings and how they can be designed to survive Earthquakes.

We studied how earthquakes occur and looked at devastating power of earthquakes, we thought about the recent events in Mexico. We wrote a set of instructions for what to do if an earthquake happens at school....Stop, Drop and Hold!

Maths

 

We have been looking at place value and thinking about the value of each digit in a number. We are now working on addition and subtraction methods. We are also trying to estimate an answer and then check our answer using the inverse. We are also trying hard to use reasoning skills when we answer questions or word problems.

We have looked at familiar stories and 'I'll Take You to Mrs Cole'. We then wrote our own versions, trying to use the features we had seen in the story. We have also been look at information, explanation and recount writing. We used game shows as a stimulus. Next up is poetry! We have also been working hard on our grammar so we can identify and use: nouns, adjectives and verbs in our writing.
