In Year 1 our project was Rosa Parks. We look at Black history month, Louis Mailou Jones’ artwork and Rosa Parks and the changes that she made as a result of her human rights. We celebrated the achievements of Black history by learning about famous artists and musicians from around the world.
Our final outcome was a postcard written as if they were Rosa Parks writing about what had happened to her. We also completed a piece of art work in the style of Louis Mailou Jones
The children particularly enjoyed tasting different fruits and making their own instruments.
In writing we were looking at the Tin Forest. Our first focus was to retell the middle of the story. We then used the story as inspiration to grow our own seeds where we wrote instructions on how to grow cress.
We worked hard to improve our skills of imperative verbs for instructions, our use of adverbials of time and capital letters and full stops for sentences.
Our focus in reading last term was retrieval and inference.
We worked really hard to get better at understanding how there are clues within the text to help us answer questions about a given text.
In Science we have been learning about animals.
One of our challenges was to learn about the different types of animals and how each of them have key characteristics that define them.
We are really proud of our art as we were able to develop our line and pencil skills by creating a mask inspired by Louis Mailou Jones. We are also really proud of our performance during the production Lights Camel Action as we showed great courage and confidence standing up in front of our families to sing.
