Welcome to Year 4!

In Pullman Class, we have Miss Deedigan and Mrs Goulding helping us through our learning journey. There are new activities for Year 4 to enjoy this year, including swimming, brass instruments being taught in our music lessons and a range of new PE activities. We're also going to be learning about some very new and exciting topics in our history lessons and taking part in interesting science experiments! Additionally, there are exciting books to look forward to exploring in our literacy lessons and we're going to have opportunities to put our writing skills to the test. Each of you will be given the opportunity to take a book home to read for pleasure from the library and a levelled book on a Friday. Don't forget to record all your reading in your reading record. This term we are looking at the Anglo-Saxons and Viking influence on daily life in History, Andy Warhol in the style of Pop art for Art and sound and how it is produced in Science. Year 4 will also have the opportunity to go on a range of trips including a visit to the Roman Baths, Salisbury Cathedral and the West Wilts dance festival!

Reading

All the children have a levelled school reading book to take home as well as a reading book for pleasure from the library weekly. Please try to read with your child regularly even if your child is a fluent reader and support him/her by asking questions to deepen their understanding of the texts and recording in their reading records when they read.

Spellings-

There will be spellings to learn each week and tested on Fridays. The words are sent home on a Monday in their homework folders. These spellings will usually focus on spelling patterns and rules.

Maths

In year 4 we have a timetable test at the end of the year that all children across the country in Year 4 will complete. Please can the children practice their times tables at home as regularly as possible in order to support in class learning. I have attached some helpful links onto the website for the children to use.

PE days-

We have PE days on Friday. This term we will be looking at Hockey on a Friday. The children will need to come into school on a Friday dressed in their PE kits.
