St Michael's & All Angels Church, Melksham

Rev Alison Sowton is the vicar at our church as is involved in the life of the school.

Hannah Tarring is the Family Link Worker for the church and she also spends a great deal of time supporting children at school. She leads Bible Club and our Prayer Council. She also leads worship and visits weekly to help lead Open the Book worship. She also supports individuals through the accompanying project which supports children in their transition to secondary education.

They are both well known and loved by the children and their families.

Children visit church regularly to lead special services which are attended by other pupils, families and members of the community. Children also visit the church to learn more about the church as a special building and place of worship.

Hannah Tarring

Hi! My name is Hannah and I am the Children and Families Coordinator for Melksham Team Ministry. I have been in Melksham and this role for 3 years and love the work I am able to do with children and their families in the local area, including at The Manor. Before I had this role, I was completing my training with CYM (institute for Children, Youth and Mission) and working as a Children’s Worker at Abingdon Vineyard Church in Oxfordshire.

I work closely with the school on a regular basis and know the children and staff well. Some of my key roles within the school are:

  • Leading Prayer Council.
  • Leading Ignite after-school club for a different group of children each term.
  • Being part of a weekly Open the Book Collective Worship.
  • Working with a couple of children each year on the Youth for Christ ‘Accompanying Project’, to support children on their transition to secondary school.
  • Leading the annual Year 5 Pilgrimage, where children travel round and explore four different churches in Melksham.

I love the work I do and it’s great to spend time working in The Manor. It has also been wonderful to welcome children and families form The Manor to Melksham Messy Church and our annual Messy Church Holiday Club. I look forward to meeting you and your children soon.
