Welcome to Year 4!

In Apollo Class we have Miss Deedigan and Mrs Weatherburn helping us through our learning journey. There are new activities for Year 4 to enjoy this year, including swimming for two terms and glockenspiel practice in music lessons. We're also going to be learning about some very new and exciting topics in our history lessons and taking part in interesting science experiments! Additionally, there are exciting books to look forward to exploring in our literacy lessons and we're going to have opportunities to put our writing skills to the test! Each of you will be given the opportunity to take a book home to read for pleasure from the library and a levelled book on a Friday. Don't forget to record all your reading in your reading record. This term we are looking at Journeys in Geography around the UK and France, Cubism in art around printing and colour and states of matter in science.

Topics we will be covering this year-

Term 2- Roman Britain

Term 3- Journeys through the UK and France

Term 4- The Ancient Greeks

Term 5- Treasure trails- local geographical focus

Term 6- Roman Britain

Reading-

All the children have a levelled school reading book to take home as well as a reading book for pleasure from the library weekly. Please try to read with your child regularly even if your child is a fluent reader and support him/her by asking questions to deepen their understanding of the texts and recording in their reading records when they read.

Spellings-

There will be spellings to learn each week and tested on Fridays. The words are sent home on a Monday and put on Dojo. These spellings will usually focus on spelling patterns and rules.

Maths-

In year 4 we have a timetable test at the end of the year that all children across the country in Year 4 will complete. Please can the children practice their times tables at home as regularly as possible in order to support in class learning. I have attached some helpful links onto the website for the children to use.

PE days-

We have PE days on a Wednesday afternoon. This term we will be looking at Gymnastics and exploring creative routines using learned skills. The children will need to bring in their PE kits on a Wednesday morning to get changed into in the afternoon.
