Welcome to Year 2

Year 2 – Admiral Class

Mrs Woodhams – Teacher

Miss Mills – Teaching Assistant

We are Year 2 and love learning by exploring, engaging and having fun! We love reading all sorts of books in our class and have the best time acting these out to help with our writing. We have been learning our 2, 5 & 10 times tables and love using different songs and actions to help reinforce our learning.

Our topic for this term is The Great Fire of London.

Our book this term is The Dragon Machine.

Reading

All the children have two reading books each week to take home. They will have a Little Wandle Big Cats book linked to their reading stage and book for pleasure from the library. These books will be changed on Mondays.

Each child has a reading record to take home to record their reading sessions. Please try to read with your child regularly (ideally at least 3 times a week) even if your child is a fluent reader and support him/her by asking questions to deepen their understanding of the text.

Little Wandle Letters and Sound

The resources on this page will help you support your child with saying their sounds and writing their letters. There are also some useful videos so you can see how they are taught at school and feel confident about supporting their reading at home.

Spellings

Spellings are to be practiced each week. They are given out on Mondays and tested every Friday. They may include common exceptions words from year 1 and 2 or may focus on spelling patterns and rules.

Maths

In maths we cover a wide range of topics. Some of the key topics include place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division along with many others. Regular practice of number bonds to 5, 10 and 20 are key foundations which will help when building on our learning. There is a link below where place value and other key topics can be practiced.

Home Learning

Children are to read at home at least 3 times a week. Don’t forget to record this in their reading record. Spellings are to be practiced each week. They are given out on Mondays and tested every Friday.

PE Days

Our PE day is on Friday. Please ensure your child has their PE kit.

A reminder or our PE uniform policy:

PE kits should be brought in a suitable named bag. Please label all clothing with your child’s name. The PE kit consists of:

  • A yellow t-shirt (with or without a logo).
  • Black shorts.
  • A dark tracksuit in winter.
  • Daps or trainers.

Lost property will be available in the parent’s room should any missing uniform items be recovered.

Please can they be brought in on the first day of term and kept in for the duration of the term.

We look forward to working with you to ensure your child fulfils their potential.
